New month, four new food and drink events.
Houston Restaurant Week 2015 — Eat out for a good cause. Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) is the largest annual fundraiser for America’s largest food bank. Planned by volunteers, HRW donates 100% of the funds raised to the Houston Food Bank. Houston Restaurant Weeks lasts from August 1 through September 7, 2015. Restaurants participating create special menus created exclusively for this annual fundraiser. The list of restaurants participating this year range from the high-end Tony’s to the Alamo Drafthouse. And be sure to stop by Dish Society to snag a Texas made t-shirt, 50% of the proceeds go to support Houston Food Bank during Houston Restaurant Weeks 2015. [HRW]
The Alcohol Infused Festival — The Tipsy Dessert Bar are purveyors of the finer things in life, specifically of high-proof, alcohol infused, nondairy frozen creams. This is ice-cream adults only, and The Alcohol Infused Festival held at the Silos on the East End on August 7, is partnering with various alcoholic beverage companies to create the unique ice cream treats. The event will feature live music, a grape stomping contests and a VIP live culinary class, where VIP guests will have the option of infusing their own ice cream. [Culturemap]
Bernie’s Burger Bus Pop-Up Glitter Karaoke — Chef Justin Turner (Bernie’s Burger Bus) has recently shared his menu for the pop-up food event held at Glitter Karaoke in Midtown. The event will take place August 6, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will feature a mix of high-brow and low-brow fare. Expect a creative take on potato skins with crispy potatoes, lardon, creme fraiche, chives and LA Bowfin Caviar. Or dive into the grilled cheese with sherry-braised short ribs from 44 Farms, taleggio cheese and spicy fig chutney. [Facebook]
Ripe Dinner Featuring chef Stephanie Hobban — Aces of Taste is a roaming culinary pop-up that hosts multi-course dinners and brunches featuring veteran and emerging chefs throughout Houston. This month they’ve tapped talented vegan chef Hobban (Ripe Food Truck) for a fun and inventive meal August 13, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The location has not yet been announced (adding to the secrecy of the pop-dinner group), but expect treats from Hobban such as, kohlrabi tacos made with smoked heirloom carrots, sesame mole and jackfruit nachos with pan asian bbq ‘pulled’ jackfruit and wonton chip.
