Tomball is a fairly small city located in southwestern Texas that borders The Woodlands and is located close to Houston.

Tomball Neighborhood History
Land in the Tomball area was originally granted to William Hurd’s heirs in 1838, and around this time immigrants began to settle in the area.
They were attracted to the open land that received enough rainfall, perfect for farming and raising cattle.
In 1906 the area started to boom starting with a railroad being built in the area which brought people who built hotels, stores, and boarding houses.
Thomas Henry Ball was an attorney for the railroad company and played a significant role in the construction so eventually in 1907 the town was officially called Tomball.
Eventually the railroad’s impact on the city declined, but businesses found a reason to establish in Tomball after an oil gusher was found in Beaumont, Texas.
In May, 1933, Tomball’s citizens hit a 100-foot gusher of oil, and over two dozen oil companies moved to the area which brought workers and money to the area.
The Humble Oil Company, one of the major players in oil at the time, made an agreement with the town to give all the residents free oil in exchange for the right to drill on the land.
The same year that oil was found in Tomball, the citizens of Tomball decided to incorporate the town.
It continued to grow and saw its second major boom after World War II.
Texans sought a more comfortable life away from the city and enjoyed the fact that Tomball allowed them to stay away from high taxes, crime, and traffic while still being close enough to find employment opportunities, be immersed in a rich culture, and enjoy fun and entertainment that the surrounding areas had to offer.

Tomball is approximately 12 square miles of space located northwest of Houston off of Texas State Highway 249. The climate includes hot, humid summers, and cool winters.

The Tomball Museum Center
Explore Tomball as it was in the early 1900’s. The Tomball Museum Center invites you to tour the historical buildings that represent early Texas and view the authentic antique collection and photos of the citizens of Tomball. Weddings and receptions are also held at the Tomball Museum, and there are also seasonal events held here too such as the Annual Christmas Open House and Candlelight Tour.
The Tomball Honky Tonk Music Festival
The City of Tomball throws a Honky Tonk Music Festival where people can listen to the hottest bands on the Lone Star dancehall circuit. There’s plenty of food to eat, crafts to purchase, and music to listen to. Admission to the festival and parking are free, with performances lasting around noon and going all day.
The Bluebonnet Wine Trail
The Bluebonnet Wine Trail is something for adults to experience when they visit the Tomball area. Throughout the year, member wineries on the Wine Trail offer wine tastings, grape crushing, mystery dinner, music concerts, and much more. There are seven different wineries to explore and many different wines to experience. This is also a great place to host events, dinners, and summer concerts.
If you want to entertain the whole family, one way to do it is by going to the Wet’n’Wild SplashTown Waterpark. There are pools, beach areas, and slides that the whole family will enjoy. They also have live concerts in the summer, special events for the whole family, and large projectors so that you can watch a movie while you swim. Dining, shopping, and lodging is available as well, so you can make it a weekend trip if you’re in the Tomball area.

Northwest of Tomball is Magnolia, a smaller town in southwestern Montgomery, Texas. It is known for its large single family properties that are usually on lots with large acreage. Homes are surrounded by trees and forest area, and there are also large bodies of water on the property in the area. The population throughout the beginning of Magnolia, all the way to present day has been consistent, with about 1,000 residents residing in the town of Magnolia.

There’s about one square mile worth of space allotted to the town of Magnolia. Within 12 square miles which is in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Magnolia, there’s a population of over 100,000 people. The area surrounding Magnolia is growing rapidly and the homes that are for sale in the area offer a luxury getaway outside of the city of Houston.
Magnolia Neighborhood History
Settling started in the 1840s, and this area was originally called Mink’s Prairie by one of the early settlers. Later the name was shortened to Mink, until it was changed to Melton in 1902 after the International-Great Northern Railroad built a railroad line in the area. People confused Melton (named after Jim Melton who was a successful landowner) with Milton, and the name of the town was further changed to Magnolia.
Outdoor activities are a main draw to the Magnolia area. Pinebrook Farms is one of the main attractions and offers a place for adults and children to take horseback riding lessons. The Pinebrook Farms Summer Camp is for children aged 7 – 18 and teaches advanced horseback riding skills, arts and crafts, archery, and lots more. There are also horse shows, clinics, and sales at the Pinebrook Farms.
For those of you who prefer to travel on both feet, Magnolia offers The Magnolia Stroll, a tree-lined half-mile walkway that leads to a park and Farmers Market. This path is great for leisure walkers or brisk joggers that want to view beautiful street arbors, public art locations, or take a rest in one of the beautiful Magnolia parks. Along the way you’ll find shops, restaurants, and galleries that you can visit with the many citizens of Magnolia.
If you enjoy golfing, then you’ll have a good time at the High Meadow Ranch Golf Club. It was designed by Tim Nugent and former PGA Touring Professional, David Ogrin. The environment is relaxed and allows you to play at three different six-hole loops. Golfing here is great for quick rounds and is popular with golf leagues and groups in the area.
